Acid thrown on woman

A married woman was attacked with acid after she spurned advances of two men in Jamtara district’s Bagdehari village. The victim, who is in her early 20s, suffered burns on her face and body.

Police said the two men had asked the woman to have sex with them and when she refused, they threw acid on her. Jamtara have lodged an FIR for attempted murder.

Cyber crime

Patna police arrested six persons on the charge of changing the international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) number of cell phones and Sim cards without permission of their owners and using them in stolen mobiles for committing crimes.

A special police team carried out raids at two public booths, owned by Pankaj Kumar and Gopal Mehta at Dargah Road in Sultanganj police station and seized four illegal walkie-talkie sets from there and arrested both the booth owners. The team also raided Google Communication, a cell phone repair shop, at Bakerganaj of Pirbahore police station and found IMEI being changed. The shop-owner and three of his employees were arrested with the equipment. The arrested persons have been identified as Pankaj Kumar, Gopal Mehta, Ajit Kumar alias Rahul, Firdaus Akhtar alias Tammana, Pankaj Kumar and Jainandan Kumar.

The police team also seized four CPUs, four monitors, one laptop, three keyboards, one net gear, one data cable, six walkie-talkie sets and 125 cell phones of different makes.

Dacoits open fire

Three persons of a family sustained bullet injuries while others were mercilessly assaulted when they resisted a dacoity in their house in village Sahbazpur under Vaishali police station. The three injured have been admitted to PMCH at Patna.

Police said over a dozen armed criminals including some masked men entered the house of a PDS dealer, Abhay Kumar Singh, late at night and took the family members hostage at gunpoint. Police said they looted Rs 2 lakh in cash and gold jewellery of an equal amount from the house. When some of the family members tried to remove the mask of the criminals, they opened fire causing injuries to Ritu Raj, Ajay Kumar and Priti Kumari.

Police fire on rape protestors

At least two persons were injured when police fired at a mob indulging in arson and brick-batting at Sarai police station in Vaishali district.

The mob was protesting against the police’s alleged failure to arrest two persons accused of raping and murdering a Class X student. The injured, Randhir Paswan, 40, and Rajendra Mahto, 42, were admitted to Patna Medical College and Hospital. Doctors attending on them said Paswan’s condition was critical. He sustained injuries in his head, while Mahto was hit on his thigh. Two policemen, including a sub-inspector, were injured in stone pelting by the protesters.

Trouble started in the morning when a group of about 300 to 400 men and women gathered at Sarai Market and disrupted traffic on NH 77. Later, they attacked the police station and set afire the record room and vehicles parked on the campus. Fearing that the situation was going out of hand, Sarai police sought additional reinforcement from the district headquarters.

The protesters, mostly women, had laid a siege to the police station, demanding arrest of the named accused in the rape and subsequent murder of Kavita Paswan, whose body was found on July 9. As the mob turned violent and did not allow the senior officers to enter the police station, the security personnel opened fired. The agitation was launched under the banner of Bharatiya Mahila Chetna Manch.
